Everyone in the studio has an opportunity to submit an idea, at which point they’re voted on by a jury of Blur’s supervisors. After an idea is selected, it gets fed in to our well-oiled production pipeline, beginning with storyboarding, concept art, etc. It’s a very collaborative process. Our supervisors and story artists spend a lot of time hammering out the details of the narrative and wrangling any stray story points. Once that’s complete, the project goes in to full production -meaning layout, animation, lighting/rendering, etc. But it’s no secret to anyone here that the story has to be working before any of the production goes too far… no amount of fancy rendering will fix an underdeveloped idea.

Yes, the stakes are high and we do decide as a business to use any profit monies into these short film projects. They are very important to us as artists. I.A. - Where does A Gentlemen’s Duel idea comes from? B.S. - Two of our very talented concept artists, Sean McNally and Francisco Ruiz thought of taking a simple idea like a duel and adding very boisterous, over-the-top mechs. |
