A Gentlemen's Interview with Blur Studio

I.A. – How did you come up with these charming French and English characters? Did you make these choices especially to develop their stereotypes and the cartoon styles associated to them?

Blur is made up of animators and technical staff from all around the world. We have folks from Italy, Finland, South Africa, Australia, Japan, Mexico, France, Spain, Korea, Canada and England…to name a few. We are always joking around about our own stereotypes and thought it would be great to play that up in this short.

I.A. - The robots (fighting machines) reminds me of some H.G wells’ or Jules Vernes’ illustrations. Were these part of your inspiration? What else were you influenced by?

B.S. - Yes, we were definitely inspired by both.

J.L.- Of course, I must say the girl’s boobs in 'A Gentlemen's Duel', are excellent! Who is responsible for such cartoony delight, Sze Jones perhaps?

B.S. - YES! Sze Jones is a fabulous character modeler and supervisor. She is extremely talented and passionate about her female models. She leads a team of very devoted character modelers here at Blur and we believe they are all quite enamored with large boobies. Of course, the animation of the breasts was a key factor.

I.A. - I can’t imagine seeing some of Gentlemen’s Duel scenes in a Pixar or Dreamworks movie. Do you think that the fact you’re producing short movies gives you more freedom?

B.S. - Yes, we definitely feel that we have the freedom to create whatever we want because we are funding these projects ourselves….we are the clients.
