I.A. - Gentlemen’s duel is the first Blur’s short involving dialogues. How has it changed your creative process? B.S. - Actually, we have worked with speaking characters in a lot of our projects….from talking animals and robots to Marvel characters. It was only a new part of our shorts program. We love working with great voice talent because they bring so much more drama and depth to each character. |

In this case, Tom Kenny, the voice for SpongeBob Squarepants on Nickelodeon was the voice of Weatherby. And Blur’s Concept Artist Chuck Wojkiewicz was the voice for the French Lieutenant Dubious. Yes, this is our first short film with dialogue, however, we incorporate
I.A. - The integration of XSI in your Pipeline is also a new step for Blur Studio. Is it something you now integrate in all your production? B.S - For over 10 years we were exclusively a 3D Studio Max house and have written a lot of our own plug-ins and tools for our pipeline. However “A Gentlemen’s Duel” was the first project in which we used XSI for our animation. We have been working with the folks at Softimage for a while to integrate it into our production pipeline. The animators decided that XSI gives them flexibility, speed and ability to be more intuitive than MAX. Now we use both packages along with Digital Fusion for our compositing. We are using XSI for all of our character animation that is key framed. All motion captured animation will be also completed in XSI once we work out more of our rigging pipeline |
