A Gentlemen's Interview with Blur Studio
www.blur.com

B.S. Fortunately Blur is still at a size where we can have a few generalist artists. Some animators and compositors don’t want to be pigeon-holed into certain disciplines. There are several FX guys that love to work on lighting. And there are a few animators that are fantastic art directors too.Blur tries to accommodate everyone’s individual artistic expression as long as the production pipeline warrants it. And it usually does. Generally speaking, yes, each area of production, modelling, FX, animation have folks that specialize in those particular areas.

Gopher Broke - Teaser

J.L. - . Are there any engineers or programmers on the staff for scripting, plug-ins or other technical wizardry?

B.S. - Wow, we have a great group of folks working on scripting, plug-ins and tools. We currently have 4 fulltime writers, engineers, scripting gurus. They are fabulous at working out pipeline issues and supporting the artists in various ways. Blur is very devoted to streamlining our processes while remaining intuitive for the animators. In an effort to remain “lean and mean” we basically use off the shelf software and then build our own tools and systems to best suit our needs. We have our own rendering system, intranet tracking system and are constantly working on asset management tools. Our IT department is made up of 4 hardware and software specialists that work around the clock to keep our computers running as smoothly as possible. Everyone in these areas is on the staff here at Blur.

J.L - I watched every single trailer on your website. Each was absolutely amazing in every possible way. When a video game company hires you to create a cinematic trailer of this scale, how do you handle Foley and special sound effects? Do you have in-house temporary Foley sound? Likewise, is the music handed to you already completed for you to fit the action shots and sequences to it, or is a score composer (either contract staff or from the game company) in charge of it for the whole trailer once it is animated and locked? I am wondering because the Foley design, sound effects and scores are very minutely achieved in each of your productions.
