A Gentlemen's Interview with Blur Studio |

B.S. - Our three most successful short films, “RockFish,” “Gopher Broke,” and most recently “A Gentlemen’s Duel” were all scored by the same talented composer, Rob Cairns. Rob lives here in LA and we have a tight relationship. He works with us on many of our projects here at Blur, not just our shorts. He composes a wide variety of projects from cinematics, episodic TV to films and commercials. Over the years he has become a vital part of the success of our shorts. There is such a trust and loyalty there, we are sure he’ll be working with us on our feature films too. J.L - . Tim Miller mentioned in an interview that Blur Studio prefers handling projects that the whole team at Blur has decided upon or found interesting to work on. They aren’t just companies’ random projects to be completed... Could you expand on that? Collectively where does the team get the inspiration to decide which projects to take on? Is it from CG website, Forums, real life, childhood fantasies, word of mouth, or from a friend of a friend? B.S. : We get inspiration from a lot of different places. It really depends on the project, but we’ll get motivated by work done in live-action films, animated films, music videos, game cinematics, commercials, comic books… it’s really a melting pot that everyone in the studio draws from and it usually results in the desire to do better. We work on such a variety of different projects over the course of a year that it provides us with an opportunity to employ a lot of different styles and aesthetics. Under Blur’s roof, light-hearted cartoony projects coexist frequently with realistic science-fiction action pieces, what ensures that there’s always something for the artists to enjoy working on. |

J.L. -. Your video game trailers are amazing and breathtaking. Why don't you just start a game development studio of your own, in-house? Not only would the cut scenes look great, but the in-game models would be just as great with the right real-time engine. B.S. : We have been approached about that very thing many times. However, we are just not interested in developing games. FILMS, feature films! That’s what floats our boat. Though we LOVE games and believe they are looking more and more beautiful all the time, we’ll play them and learn from them right now. |
