IT'S ART CG Competition : Human Nature

More than $35000 Prizes Value


From April 22nd to September 30th, IT’S ART is holding a contest called “Human Nature ”. In either 2D or 3D, Animation or Video you must try to portray what sort of situation, real or imaginary, the following concept can inspire you to create : "Human nature is the concept that there is a set of inherent distinguishing characteristics, including ways of thinking , feeling and acting, that all humans tend to have". The Challenge will start April 15th and will end September 30th. The challenge will be divided in two categories :

2D & 3D Stills Pictures
Animation / VFX ( movies )

Awarded composer Justin Lassen has provided two music tracks for the animation / VFX section and artists will be asked to use it ( or part of it ) in their production. ( see Tracks Section for details). Some Prizes will be added during the competition and announced through our newsletter and Facebook Fan Page

All promoted entries will received the full IT'S ART Magazines Issues ( 3 issues - more than 1500 Pages )


Submit your work

You must be registered with IT’S ART website and optionally IT'S ART Facebook Fan Page (if you want regular updates about the challenge and more promotion for your work ) and create a thread in the dedicated forum with the category and name of your work as title. When your work is complete you must post the work in CG Gallery, in the challenge category, and add a link to the WIP thread in the description of your post. All promoted entries will received the full IT'S ART Magazines Issues ( 3 issues - more than 1500 Pages )


Challenge rules apply to individuals.

All entrants must be registered with IT’S ART website and optionally IT'S ART Facebook Fan Page (if you want regular updates about the challenge and more promotion for your work )

Entries should be original. Any entry deemed by the judges to be identical or substantially similar to any other entry previously entered may be disqualified as a derivative work.

The project submited to this contest must be of your personal work & creation. Collaborative or workgroup projects are not allowed.

Only one project per artist, category and contest.

Your project must be an original creation, copies, plagiats and modifications of existing project are not accepted. You must have all rights and copyrights to your artwork.

W.I.P . (Works In Progress) must be posted in the IT'S ART forum contest WIP area. This will stand as proof that the project is your own creation by showing the various phases of realisation, and allow others to review and critique to help you improve it.

No late entries will be accepted. IT’S ART will not be held responsible for late entries for any reason whatsoever. It is the sole responsibility of the entrants to make reasonable allowances for upload times and to plan accordingly.

Decisions by the Judges are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Any import taxes or duties on prizes must be paid by the prize winner. It is neither practically possible nor ethically reasonable for IT’S ART or any of the sponsors to pay duties and taxes on behalf of a winner. IT’S ART and sponsors will not make false valuation claims to assist winners from evading any applicable duties and taxes.

By entering artwork to the competition, the entrant warrants that they are the sole copyright holder or they have obtained the rights sufficient for the purpose of the competition.

Entrants’ works can be offered separately as isolated works of art--print, etc.--or as part of a suite of prints, or posted on artist or web site(s), if they are accompanied with suitable credits to original works : if the work is to be used in a commercial context, permission must be granted in writing from the creator of the original work.

The entrant grants IT’S ART and competition sponsors rights to use all entered materials in any media for sales, marketing and merchandising material provided full and correct credit for the artist clearly appears with said materials.

The winners grant IT’S ART first right to publish their submitted work in any media.

Other than the rights assigned in the preceding clauses, entrants retain copyright of all entered materials and are free to use said materials for personal promotion.

IT’S ART may suspend a category if insufficient entries are received for that category to be considered viable and be judged.

IT’S ART reserves the right to suspend, shorten, modify or cancel the challenge, including these rules, in any manner at its sole discretion with or without prior notice.

Specific Rules for Pictures

- Works In Progress (WIP) must be posted in the IT'S ART forum contest WIP area. This forum will act as proof that the project is your own creation by showing various phases of realization and allow others to review and critique your work, thereby helping you improve it.

- 2D/3D Categories : Only jpeg images of the art will be accepted. The maximum size allowed in the gallery 2000x2000 pixels (size : 512 kb). The image dimensions cannot be smaller than 1600x1200 pixels. 

Specific Rules for Video

The project submitted to this contest must be your personal work and creation. Collaborative work group projects are allowed.

- You must credit all participants in the entries and if you’re working for a school or studio, you must include the name in the title of the forum thread or in the description.

- Only one project per artist, school, studio is allowed.

- You must used one of Justin Lassen's music tracks ( or part of them ) in your video or animation ( see tracks section )

- Works In Progress (WIP) videos must be posted in the forum and IT'S ART Channel. They must be posted in the forum using vimeo tag ( [vimeo]#video [/vimeo] ). All entries in must be credited as an entry for itsartmag “Human Nature” challenge.

- The final video must be posted in the video section of the CG Gallery using your account.

- Final video must be 720p (1280 x 720 pixels); the length of the video must be at least 30 seconds.

- You can use any animation or video techniques. If you choose only video ( no 2D or 3d animation) then the video must include at least one VFX shot.

Employees and immediate family relatives of IT’S ART staff, sponsors and judges cannot compete in the challenge.


Alex Ruiz is currently a freelance concept artist/illustrator lending his talents to the film, television, video game, publishing, and music industries. Clients include 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, Sony, Radical Comics, Virgin Comics, and visual effects houses Perspective Studios and S4 Studios. He is also an art instructor at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art and Studio Arts in Los Angeles, teaching classes in conceptual design, painting, and anatomy

Serge Birault is a freelance illustrator and characters designer who works for animation industry, advertising and several magazines like ImagineFX. He also gives courses and masterclasses in different schools.

Neil Blevins is working as a Technical Director for Pixar. In his spare time, he makes sci-fi 3d/2d hybrid artwork, author tools and writes art related lessons and tutorials for his website.

Peter Miller, Peter has just completed almost two years worth of work as Sound Designer and co-Supervising Sound Editor on the Paramount Pictures animation epic Rango, directed by Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski.

Paul Gerrard : A career spanning over 15 years, as an art director for numerous successful computer games and a lead concept artist and pre-visual consultant  for some of hollywoods largest  movies. Including the recently trailered BATTLE LOS ANGELES for SONY PICTURES.
