FOCUS : Le Clip Qui Dechire II

Mixus was born in 2000 from the association of two men : Thierry Soret & Bruno Souverbie. They chose to work together in sound creation, all the while creating albums, advertising, soundtrack productions, special events and live performances. Mixus is a kind of U.F.O in this business, and the team has decided to make a trip together in the same saucer. Discover, the french Mixus touch and another side of French President, Nicolas Sarkozy.

IT’S ART : Where does the initial idea of « le clip qui déchire » come from?

Sylvain Delmé : In the Spring of 2007, when Nicolas Bling became our president. You have probably heard about his way of life at this time : eating in the most prestigious restaurants, wearing very expensive watches and sunglasses, spending time on amazing yachts, marrying a top Model...

So I said to myself : Wow!! Are we living in a gangsta rap video? Is it MTV or real life? So I decided to make a clip, using all the « cliches » of such rap videos.

IT’S ART : Can you speak about the development process/ pipeline you’ve used to create the first épisode ?

Sylvain Delmé : I really started working on the project the following year, in the Spring of 2008. I modelled the characters first, and when I joined the Mixus’s team in June to create the animation Studio, we really started the production process. Bruno Souverbie (the musician of the team) and Thierry Soret (the Producer) started to work on the music. Meanwhile, I asked Yan Pradeau ( a friend of mine) to work on the lyrics according to my notes.

By the end of June, the song was ready. So I called another friend : Lorenzo Pancino - who is a very well known voice over in France - and I said : "Hi guy, what about imitating our président in a gansta rap video?" I can’t repeat here what he answered the very first time, but a few days later, after talking and talking… drinking beers and drinking more beers… he finally said : "Ok let’s give it a try, but I’ll ask not to be in the same jail as you " After recording Lorenzo, I wrote the script, and we started building the sets by the middle of July. Since we had to stop many times during the process to work on « real » projects (I mean : paid ones !) it took almost 4 months to achieve.

IT’ S ART : After the success of the first episode, you’ve worked on mini series on the same theme. How far the creative was it different from the music video?

Sylvain Delmé : A lot of TV-producers contacted us during November & December. They all wanted to put a program similar to "Le clip qui dechire" on screen 3 or 4 times a month with different characters each time. We could do that. They could’n’t pay for it! So we thought about a program we could produce in a very short time and for a lower cost. That’s why we have created "le miroir".

We made 5 episodes to be sure that we could produce each of the next ones in less than 3 days. Then we stopped. For different reasons ( economic crisis, political climate) we still haven’t made any deal with anyone at the moment.

IT’ S ART : What was your motivation when you’ve decided to make a sequel?

Sylvain Delmé : We didn’t have any choice in a way ! Everybody wanted to see it (my mother first). But we wanted to make something different from the first one : No explicit references to Nicolas Bling’s politic or personal life: Just fun ! We made Nicolas Bling a real toon character for this sequel. It was also an opportunity to improve our pipeline.
