Phase 2 - Furnishing

When working with the furnishings I used mostly layer styles and blending modes. For the picture frames, I used an EMBOSS effect with a bit of texture for the outer frame. For this piece in particular I created a couple of curlicues and duplicated them around the perimeter of the oval shape. The canvas painting was done in Painter since it’s easier to create the look of natural media. I used the REAL BRISTLE brushes and many others trying to get that loose painterly feel. Once I had something that looked traditional enough, I layered scanned textures using MULTIPLY and SOFT LIGHT to create the illusion of an aged canvas.



I also used a lot of the smudge tool and it was key to giving my hard “Photoshopy” lines its smoothness and dissolve. The antique cabinet was done through the same process of layer styles and an assortment of blending layers. The ornamental design was a simple line design that I duplicated to create a weaving pattern. And again, I added textured layers on top to create the illusion of light diffusion and antiqueness.
