To avoid being bogged down with many layers, if I was happy with the changes I made, I merged the layers, flattening them down. I then made a duplicate on top of that layer and continued to add more details and corrections as I went. I used almost every adjustment Photoshop provides in the image adjustment menu. To learn more about these adjustments, refer to Photoshop’s tutorial on this subject.
I kept refining and adding detail, light effects and particles in order to add more complexity to the whole piece. I spent considerable time on detailing for even in these final stages; if you aren’t happy with the results, you can easily change it. Of course, this requires spending extra time painting, but it’s worth it in the end as your overall work satisfaction will be greater.
