Justin Lassen : The Darker Side of Synaesthesia

I could be wrong, but I think there is no way music like this would stand a chance on Myspace or Rolling Stone or other traditional music outlets due to all the noise and clutter that is already there. There is just something really sonically powerful about digital art that to me needs continued research and experimentation in relation to music, and on how both can work together, outside of traditional means. It’s normal for you to go see a film and hear a score, along with the moving pictures, but it’s a bit more abstract and forward-looking to hear a score on a still image or at an art gallery exhibit.

It helps your brain’s gears work productively and figure out, why the painting sounds that way. You end up using your imagination more, instead of relying on the spoon-fed Hollywood chow that we all scarf down so easily. As far as opening a new door, I’m not sure what I will accomplish with this series, but it has lasted for a couple years now and it seems to continue to excite and interest digital artists and musicians. I’m happy to have started this mini-revolution. I am just glad that it inspires you all.

Justin Lassen : It is actually pretty straight forward for both of these artists. They are amongst an elite few whom are classy, viciously talented and always evolving and learning new techniques; artists who are not afraid of sharing that with the world. I think you either have it, or you don’t, or you eventually stumble upon it after massive piles of experiments gone awry. I have found that for me, personally, not all CG artists get it right, and there might be only one or two pieces in their gallery that you can really call ‘finished’ or that really inspire a soundtrack or story.
