Justin Lassen : The Darker Side of Synaesthesia |

When you find an artist, whose artwork seems to tell a story with each piece, even without words, and as a cohesive whole, it just feels cool, original and right. That’s the magic I look for. I feel completely honored to have worked on soundtracks for CG artwork by both of those artists you have mentioned. Those are two examples of artwork that via random searches and archeological internet digs enchantingly and brutally caught me off guard, not the other way around. It kind of kick-started this whole expedition into new territory. IT'S ART. Can you speak about the artists you've chosen for The Darker Side Of Synaesthesia? Justin Lassen : This time around I seemed to be more drawn to darker imagery and artists instead of the fairytale-esque ones I chose in the past two series. I wanted to show a different side to the series, and I hope I have accomplished that. I shall blurb about each of them below : |

| Nykolai Alexander - Nykolai has a special place in my heart from now until forever. I've known this artist for a long time now. I've seen him grow so much over the years. The paintings all just bring out such honesty, but in a really cryptic way which I am addicted to. Nykolai did a painted portrait of me in 2004 that was just breathtaking in every way. I've had another piece from this artist in the last Synaesthesia set and I wanted to include another one in this set. There was such intensity in the painting I chose, just in the character’s stare, that there was a lot of anticipation to get the song recorded before he looked away. I also feel like bragging about my dear friend, as Nyko's 'The Sentinel' is going to be the cover of EXPOSE 5.
Lance Larson - Lance is a badass. He just gets me. From the start of our collaborative friendship, this amazing photographer and digital artist has just had that special something that inspires me. I did one of my first cool photo shoots and posters for my industrial rock band 'Digital Dirt Heads' back in 2001 with him, and ever since then, I've enjoyed his friendship and watching him grow as a creative being and contributor. |
