Justin Lassen : The Darker Side of Synaesthesia

I recently did a photo shoot with him in February at the Disney Concert Hall: everything from the obscure to the candid. We had a blast. I got to see his photo 'Divine Apocalypse' amongst a collection of other pieces, and knew it had to be in my latest series of Synaesthesia compositions.

Kornél Ravadits - I chose his 'Budapest Landscape Fantasy' because I’ve lived in Budapest, and just seeing his imagination of the Danube river landscape was really exhilarating and gave me butterflies. I wanted to be on one of those ships, and just felt something special when I saw it. It brought out the little adventurer inside me. All of Kornel’s work is amazing to see. His entire gallery is awesome.

Vitaly S. Alexius - I chose his 'Sanctuary' because like his entire gallery, it was fierce and inspired. His persona is very exacting, and he appears to be quite sure of himself as an artist. I found this interesting and wicked. The way that the cathedral just melts into the ground was musical on its own. I wanted to know what that would sound like.

Track 7 : Budapest Landscape Fantasy – Kornél Ravadits

Music: “What, If In A World, There Was”

David Ho - David Ho's whole body of work is worth an entire Gallery exhibit on its own as each piece is too complex to be understood on its own. He does these wicked series of photo manipulations and paintings that touch on things that most people won't talk about. I like that. I chose his piece because it was subtle and still synaesthetically powerful. I suspect that it would be much fun to do a really minimalist gallery score one day with him.

Benita Winckler - Benita is a sweetheart and an intriguing storyteller. I've seen her work pop up all over the CG community. She seems to be developing a wonderful world to escape into and I wonder when we will all see the result. It was an honor to interview her for this magazine and even bigger honor to have composed a piece of music for her 'Aion Underground.' I could see myself composing an entire score to her world if given the chance and the right budget for the live orchestra it deserves.
