My work started from a developing idea -- what can explain relationships between humans, and what can explain the expression of a being human. The main idea is not an invention, but it’s simple and clearly represents human nature, and only human nature. Only humans can put an incredible amount of time and resources into creating civilizations and after that - destroy everything. The funny thing is, we never stop this process. We have been repeating this cycle for a more than 5000 years, so why not imagine this process still going on today?.
This idea is very similar to a statue in Berlin “Soviet soldier holding a little German girl in his hands”, so I just want to represent something like this, but not so tragic and monumental.
Concept
My next step was to draw a concept. It takes long enough time for me to do this, and there are two reasons why: firstly, am not a good painter, secondly I spend long time in developing main color groups in concept. This is necessary, because color groups will make a composition. It is necessary to keep these colors while working with light set up in the modeling stage and extremely necessary in post-production phase.
So, there are three main stages to complete: concept, modeling, and compositing.
After the concept was conceived, I began
My workflow consists of: Max primitives modeling/Texturing -> ZBrush sculpting -> ZBrush/ Photoshop texturing -> Max rigging -> Max scene set up/light/camera/render paces -> Photoshop compositing/Post. Also, I want to keep polycount as low as possible, using it just for practice and skills improvement.

As a main sculpting and texturing tool I use ZBrush 3. ZBrush is an extremely powerful tool for all purpose modeling and the texturing process. It gives real power into the hand of a modeler. The sculpting process with the ZBrush was pretty simple, and even in some difficult parts, sculpting became very funny, as it is a progressive process; you can always see what you have done. I used only standard brushes and standard sculpting techniques.
