Interview with Marek Okon
Headlines

IA: If you had a choice to work with any CG artist who would you want to work with and why?

MO: My first choice would be Craig Mullins. It’s just amazing how he creates those wonderful paintings with just a few brush strokes. And that's the reason why I would like to work with him. It would be very useful to watch his workflow, and maybe getting few tips from him. I tend over do detail my pictures. I put too much in and don’t leave any place on the canvas to breath, while Mullin’s works are just fabulous in simplicity.

IA : Any others?

MO : David "Vyle" Levy, Thierry "Barontieri" Doizon and Mathias "M@" Verhasselt. Those guys are amazing concept artists and illustrators and their technique is really inspiring. The good thing is that all of them are publishing tutorials every now and then and I'm always learning a lot from those.

IA: What have you learned through your artistic experience?

MO: Patience. You will suck at painting in the beginning, but you have to power through it. Use the constructive criticism you receive and work, work, work. Don’t let yourself get down over a bad picture, you are learning and you are going to be as long as you are an artist. There is always going to be a next picture, and another and another. As long as u can learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others you will be fine

IA: Do you think your art will still evolve in new directions? And in what direction do you think that is?

MO: After playing for a while with Zbrush I think I'm going to try and do more 2D and 3D mixes. Both of those worlds have their strong points and it’s really tempting to take the best from each of them and connect them into one picture.

IA: What projects are you working on now?

MO: I'm working hard with Privateer Press on “Warmachine: Legends” and one secret project I cannot tell you about ;). I'm doing tutorials and Q&A for ImagineFX Magazine, book covers for various publishers and I'm also producing concepts and illustrations for the game developer Nibris.

IA: Would you like to add anything else?

There are few people out there that have been supporting my work since my Manga times and I would like to give a great big thanks to them for all of their help. It’s extremely rewarding to do things other people like and enjoy. Also, thanks for the support from all of the users of the Max3D.pl forum, which has helped my passion become my work. Best of luck to you all and thank you Patrice for the interview!
