Modo 401 Review by Marc Hermitte - Part 3

Preset

I'll finish this overview with a completely reworked preset shelf. Surfaces are now dragable  directly onto the mesh in the 3D window or in the  interactive preview window. It will be assigned to the surface on which you drop the preset. It now includes tons of  materials, textures, images, environments (HDRI) , lights, cameras,  brushes, meshes, profiles and assemblies. This last folder allows you to easily add  animations to the scenes. Basicly anything can become a preset in the assets library.

All those presets  speed up the creation process. Let say you finished an architectural

work. The house is done but you need to add some lights: drag IES lights into the scene, add furnitures in just a few clicks, texture the walls, floors, stairs in minutes. Grow trees outside the building, plants in the garden (thanks to replicators!). Add your own presets as you go, keep all your meshes in a clean tidy library.

And preview everything is real time... every 3D software comes with presets collections and I didn't see what was so special with this one until I used it.  It's a real time saver.

Conclusion

I feel like Modo has grown up and this update , packed up with tons of new and innovative features, is one of the best investment I've done this year! It delivers what It promises and more. You can download the feature list with the details on Luxology Website
