IA: One of your older works is called "Mindplotter." Do you think that "Mindplotter" and "458nm" are in a way the base of Polynoid's style?
JB: I definitely agree and there are several causes for this. First, we don't really like the common way human characters are established in 3D. And secondly, we don't really like cartoony characters in 3D. But we really dig robots, animals and nature... and the pool of ideas, interpretations and stories you can create with these elements is almost infinite. Let's call this our geeky side. For the "Mindplotter" project for example, we first tried to come up with a more basic looking cartoon character based story since it was a concept for one of the 2007 ITFS trailers. We worked on it for several weeks until we decided to throw all of that away and to start something new which better suited our taste. It just didn't make us happy I guess.
IA: What do you think you've learned and improved in your creative process since these works?
JB: I think most of all that we as a team haveimproved and developed our workflow the most. Of course, we learned more about the technical aspect, but that just comes as a byproduct for everyone working in the industry. Some of us took some time to work at different companies for a while and when we all came back we shared our experiences and used them to develop our own workflow.

IA: The first time I interviewed you was for "458nm," can you tell us what's happened since this awesome short came out?
JB: We had quite an amazing year. We did a lot of traveling and visited some festivals that screened it. That was definitely a lot of fun. We talked to a lot of people and made many new friends. The CG society is smaller than we thought. So meeting the same people again in different places was fantastic. Then, as I already mentioned, some of us took a year off to work somewhere else. Ilija went to Tokyo, Japan and worked at Polygon Pictures, Csaba got a job at Buck Inc. in Los Angeles and I worked for Psyop Inc. in NYC and then in Los Angeles after they opened their new West Coast facility.
IA: You're working on a new short, can you give us any details about this project?
JB: This project will be our last project at the Film Academy as students and it takes us back to the world of small creatures, this time insects. It's gonna be a simple story which we will interpret in our way. We don't want to spill to much info, but our task is to make a small story big by putting in a lot of detail, a lot of emotion which we trigger through detailed visual concepts. There will be some updates from time to time in our status section at polynoid.org so feel free to drop by frequently to get the latest updates.
