How Stardust has digitally dressed Sloan's band members

Jake Banks, Stardust Studios' founder and creative director, and Neil Tsai, the design director for Stardust's Santa Monica studio who served as lead designer on this project and contributed greatly to its creative vision, use an experimental illustration style to make the Sloan's band members appear as pieces of sewn fabric inside an imaginary world. "The song, I've Gotta Try, is about imagination and the idea that anything is possible," Jake says in the following write-up. "That's how we looked at this: We wanted to try something new that was refreshing, where instead of creating these guys in 3D and texturing them, we shot the band performing and then textured them."

Sloan - I've Gotta Try

Jake Banks is such a huge fan of the Canadian pop-rock band Sloan that he and Revolver Film Company (Toronto/LA) have poured vast amounts of time and resources into creating a unique new music video for the track "I've Gotta Try" from the band's eighth studio album, "Never Hear the End of It." This album is also Sloan's first release on the U.S. label Yep Roc Records.

IT'S ART - Can you speak about the creative process and the collaboration between Stardust and the band?

Jake Banks : "Creatively, it was basically just trying new experimental illustration stuff. Neil Tsai and I came across this technique and style that we had wanted to do and we pitched it. The idea was Based on a fabric-feeling little dream world that was sort of like if you had all these little mites in your shirt that were walking around. It’s more about exploring different illustration styles and we riffed off this whole fabric idea. We thought what would it look like if we built all these characters out of sewn fabrics together and created this little dream world. I was a huge fan of Sloan ten years ago
